Plumbing inspection cost
The published cost by inspection type, visual, camera, or combination, what changes the price, and what a repair costs if the inspection finds a problem.
A plumbing inspection costs $100 to $200 for a basic visual inspection, $300 to $1,100 for a camera inspection, or $400 to $1,300 for a combination of the two. The published national figures for each are below.
The three inspection types cover different ground.
| Inspection type | Published cost |
|---|---|
| Visual | $100 to $200 |
| Camera | $300 to $1,100 |
| Combination | $400 to $1,300 |

Visual, camera, or combination
A visual inspection, at $100 to $200, is the most basic option. The inspector reviews what can be seen without equipment: water lines, drains, fixtures and water-using appliances such as the water heater, washer and dishwasher. It lines up with what this site's general plumbing inspection guide describes as the visible-only check.
A camera inspection, at $300 to $1,100, feeds a camera into pipework that cannot otherwise be seen: inside walls, under floors, or in the ceiling. That range is wider than this site's sewer camera figure of $125 to $500, because the sewer figure is scoped specifically to the sewer line and cleanout, and a camera job covering more of the house sits higher in the broader range.
A combination inspection, at $400 to $1,300, is a visual review plus camera work in the same visit. That is wider than the $400 to $750 this site cites for a full home inspection plus sewer camera specifically, because a combination plumbing inspection can add camera work on supply and drain lines beyond just the sewer.

What changes the price
Home size is the base variable: a smaller home has fewer water lines and fixtures to check, so the visit takes less time and costs less within each range above.
Timing is another lever. Some inspectors charge a $100 to $500 fee for emergency or after-hours calls, on top of the standard inspection cost. If the visit is not urgent, booking during normal hours avoids that fee entirely.

How long it takes and how often you need one
A plumbing inspection takes 1 to 3 hours, depending on the size of the home and whether the plumber finds anything along the way. Camera and combination inspections generally run longer than a visual-only visit.
Most professionals recommend a plumbing inspection every 1 to 2 years, or before buying or selling a home. That second point matters most on a purchase: a standard home inspection costs $250 to $500+ but does not include an extensive evaluation of the plumbing, which is exactly the gap what a plumbing inspection covers walks through in more detail.

What a repair costs if the inspection finds a problem
An inspection is diagnostic, not corrective. If it finds something, the repair is priced separately, and that is usually where the real money is.
| Repair | Published cost |
|---|---|
| Unclogging a drain | $100 to $275 |
| Sewer line repair | $150 to $3,800 |
| Water heater repair, standard tank | $150 to $700 |
| Water heater repair, tankless | $300 to $1,300 |
| Toilet repair | $130 to $300 |
Repair costs vary widely by cause and severity; a good inspection report should say which end of the range applies to what it found.
